Course Description
This is a voluntary after school band that meets twice a week from 2:30-3:30. The Jazz Band is made up of students who have previous musical experience on any instruments. They will learn to play a variety of jazz styles like swing, blues, bossa and more on traditional jazz instruments such as saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and rhythm section (bass, drums, guitar, piano). Students will have a chance to express themselves and learn to create their own music as they play in improvisational settings. Attendance for the ensemble is mandatory due to the limited nature of the rehearsals after school. The Jazz Band performs at school events such as the Winter and Spring concerts, professionally adjudicated festivals, and other possible community events.
This group is a year-long commitment. Students are expected to be at each rehearsal after signing up.
Our first meeting for the 2023/24 school year will be on September 12th at 2:30 in the band room. All interested must attend.
